How to save yourself white hairs and heartache by saving your files in the right format!

Fumble the Digital Media Puggle
(To balance out the Apocalypse!)

Here is the walk through to save your files so we can post them to the blog and work with them later to animate.

1. Remember what I said about making great art and conceptual elegance. With all the projects in this course focus on content and composition. The software skill-set will come with time and practice. Also, remember the Google rule and the lab hours. I'm here to help you succeed so please email me if you have questions.

2. After you have your image how you want it, save the file as a .psd (Photoshop Document) file. Example: digital_media_is_fun.psd. DO NOT flatten the image. You want your layers for later projects.

3. Next, go to "image > image size" and the "image size" interface will pop up. Change your resolution from 300 ppi to 72 ppi.

4. Next, go to "file > save as" and "file save" interface will appear. Change your file format from .psd to .jpg (JPEG = Joint Photographic Expert Group). A JPEG interface will pop-up allowing you to play with the image quality. Move the slider over to BEST and hit OK. This process will automatically flatten your image when it converts your file to a JPEG. If you are a careful person you can flatten the image before you save your file as a JPEG, which might be a good thing to learn. Name your file how you like it, email it to your partner, and post it to your blog.

Here's how to flatten your image.

Its fun and exciting to learn new software, so play around, watch some tutorials, and experiment to see what you can accomplish. Good luck and make great art!
